southwestern shrimp

March 13, 2011 by Tina Leave a Comment

I am re-posting this scrumptious recipe for those who missed it.

Are you ready for a little spice in your life?  Are you a shrimp lover and looking for new ways to serve it?  Well this is definitely the recipe for you, because it has a kick to it that will leave you begging for more.  shrimp that is.

Ingredients:
shrimp {you can buy fresh or frozen, your choice}
1 envelope Southwest Marinade

1
note: shrimp can be expensive, so I pick up these 14oz. bags at Walmart for $5.00 when I see them.  They make a nice dinner for two.  wink wink.

Thaw your shrimp & then pull the tails off.  I know that sounds barbaric, but they slip off pretty easily and trust me, you don’t want to eat that crunchy part.  bleck.

2

Follow the instructions on the marinade packet.  You will have to add some vegetable oil, water & vinegar.   If you mix it up in a measuring cup, it’s easier to pour over the little guys.

4

Shrimp bath!  I think I mentioned before that I like to marinade my meats/seafood the night before, but if you forget,  first thing in the morning works too.

5

Saute your shrimp, sauce and all.  You won’t need to keep them on the stove long, because the shrimp in that package are already precooked.

note: If you use fresh shrimp, you will need to peel & devein them before sauteing. You will also need to saute fresh shrimp/prawns until they turn pink.  {they will be grayish when you start}

PS.  Having your child de-vein the shrimp for you could scar them for life.  trust me on this one.

Now go get yourself a giant glass of water or something to drink.  You will need it.  This recipe will add a little spice to your life for sure.

I served them over Spanish rice with a squeeze of lime.

“Shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There’s, um, shrimp kebabs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There’s pineapple shrimp and lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich… That’s, that’s about it.”   Forest Gump
