petit jardin

July 8, 2024 by Tina 8 Comments

Oh hello there and welcome back to Emily Ann’s Kloset this wonderful summery Friday! It’s Friday fabric bundle time over at the Forth Worth Fabric Studio and this weeks bundle is called Petit Jardin.

What a fun collection of pinks, browns & low volumes to play with!

I knew the minute I saw this fabric bundle it would make such a nice gift for my sister in law. And if your like me …. you like to stow gifts away so your not scrambling at the last minute.

Oh wait, It doesn’t always work out that way does it?

I love going through my fabric collection and picking out a combination of fabrics for my projects ….. but sometimes it’s nice to just pick up a bundle that’s already made up for us. And today …. The Fort Worth Fabric Studio has this Friday fabric bundle called Petit Jardin waiting just for you.

The Crossroads Quilt Along - Intersection block

June 15, 2024 by Tina 1 Comment

Good morning from the East Coast ….. are you ready to make the Intersection Block #5 ???

The Crossroads Quilt Along is moving right along, I can’t believe we’ve been working on our quilts for 5 months now.

Intersection [in-ter-sek-shuh n]: a place where two or more roads meet. Life is a web of intersections …. and not only when we are driving to the fabric store.

Watch Kimberly’s video tutorial and download the pattern to get sewing. For every pattern download, they are only asking for a minimum $5 donation to the March of Dimes fundraiser. A great cause and you get to make something meaningful for your own family.

hello placemats

June 15, 2024 by Tina 5 Comments

Happy Wednesday everyone! Last week we made pincushions and this week we are making cute placemats. A household staple.

Well that, milk & more fabric.

Grab some of your favorite scrappy fabrics or charm squares and head over to The Fat Quarter Shop You Tube channel to watch Kimberly Jolly & Sherri McConnell’s video tutorial.

I used a red, white & blue colorway. Such a cute summer look right?

And of course a little bit of burlap & lace embelishment for a cottagey look.

Helpful tips:

  • Use quilt batting if you don’t have fusible fleece. I somehow never have fusible anything in my workshop.
  • Spray baste. It helps hold your fabric in place when quilting. Seasoned quilty veterans already know this.
  • If you quilt them in a crosshatch style ….. don’t be afraid to {also} stitch in the ditch so your placemat lays a little flatter.

Now pour yourself a glass of lemonade and go make yourself some placemats. Or buy some. Or all of the above. I mean can you ever really have enough placemats or lemonade?

mini flag pillow DIY

June 9, 2024 by Tina 4 Comments

Last summer I posted a scrappy American flag pillow on Instagram and had an overwhelming response asking how to make it.

If you’d like to make one of these cuties to add to your summer decor ….. grab some of your favorite red, white & blue scraps and let’s get started.

Fabric Cutting:

1 - 5½” navy charm square

3 - 1¼” x 7″ red strips

3 - 1¼” x 7″ white strips

3 - 1¼” x 11½” red strips

2 - 1¼” x 11½” white strips

Step One:
Sew your six short strips together ….. alternating …. red & white. {Press} Then stitch them to the right side of your navy charm square.

Step Two:
Sew your five long strips together the same way you did the short, alternating red & white. {Press} Then attach them to the top flag unit.

Step Three:
Square up your edges. No need for a perfect measurement, just be sure your edges are straight.

Step Four:
Cut your backing piece the same size as the flag unit you just made.

Step Five:
Baste a piece of quilt batting to your flag unit, quilt & add white buttons.

For a sweet look ……. top stitch some white lace over the top of a few white strips.

Finish:
Pin together your flag unit & backing piece, right sides together. Stitch a 1/4″ seam all the way around leaving an opening for stuffing.

ENJOY your cute little flag pillow! Now wasn’t that fun?

Don’t forget to stop by the Emily Ann’s Kloset etsy shop so I can make you some personalized fabric labels for your quilty fun projects.

hello pincushions

June 8, 2024 by Tina 2 Comments

Hello there friends! In the crafty little world we live in …. can you ever have enough pincushions? The answer is, NO!

They make great gifts & you can make them to coordinate with your favorite seasons & holidays if you want.

The Fat Quarter Shop and Sherri McConnell from A Quilting Life are sharing a video tutorial so we can make our own pincushions. How fun is that?

So grab your creative grids ruler {if you subscribe to the #sewsampler box one was in your April box}, your rotary cutter, some of your favorite small fabric scraps and head over to watch the pincushion video with Kimberly & Sherri.

I used some Oh Clementine scraps from an older Cluck Cluck Sew fabric line.

Here’s a couple of helpful tips:

  • If you don’t have fusible fleece on hand, {which I almost never do} ….. quilt batting is a great substitute.
  • Use transparent thread to close your pincushion opening. It’s a little fiddely to work with but makes your closure invisible.

And because everyone needs a cute Halloween pincushion, I used some of Cori Dantini’s Spooky Town fabric & a piece of the selvage to make one more. This cute fabric Blend fabric should be available very soon.

Happy stitching & happy pincushion collecting, now let’s go take a peek at some more pincushion inspiration ……
