A genius is one who shoots at something no one else can see - and hits it. ~Author Unknown
There’s something incredible I have noticed over the years. A sort of genius that special needs kids have when they are given the opportunity to study the world with wide-eyed wonder instead of focusing on a list of things they cannot do.
Emily is a very happy little girl. She is globally developmentally delayed on a “normal standard”, she is non verbal, hasn’t even learned to use the bathroom on her own, and doesn’t really like holding a pencil or crayon.
When Emily does what she LOVES…..like watching her DVD’s for example, she is smarter than most. She can hear a tune from another room {maybe a cartoon her little sister is watching}……. go to her Ipad ………navigating through her entire movie collection …… and move the dubbing scroll to the very same show, the very same song and the very same spot she heard coming from that other room.
She knows what is going to happen in a movie about six seconds before it actually happens. Without even looking. I wrote a post a couple years back titled, Six Seconds.
Emily knows what DVD is in each case and which show will play. She knows which previews should be in the beginning and can tell if you switch a DVD that was supposed to be in the box. I tried that once when a movie was missing. She was NOT happy.
This girl has some amazing abilities and a love for life that I wish I could bottle up. She’s my Sweet Genius!
