A few months ago when I bought a jelly roll and some yardage of Milk Cow Kitchen… I knew I wanted something cute for our backyard picnic table.
Since everything always tastes better outside… it will taste even better with a quilty table topper.
These are the supplies needed to make a 45 x45 table topper.
♥ 1 jelly roll of your favorite fabric
♥ 1 yard fabric {outer border}
♥ ½ yard fabric {binding}
♥ 1½ yards fabric {backing}
♥ 1½ yards cotton batting
Let’s make a table topper
The first thing we are going to do is open up your jelly roll and cut 6½ strips. You will need 75. Be sure to save 4 of your solid strips for the inner border. Don’t worry, you will have extra left over.
The center unit was inspired by the Fat Quarter Shops Jelly Roll Jam free quilt pattern.
Piece them together in sets of 3. Then create 5 rows of 5.
Add your solid strips to the center quilt unit. To get a good fit I measure my center piece and then cut my strips to fit. Left and right then top and bottom. For some reason my unit is never what it should be.
Adding outer border. First cut your fabric 6½ x the width of your inner border. Measure your center quilt unit and and cut your strips to fit the width. {approx 6½ x 33 inches}. Left and right then top and bottom. Easy right?
Now just quilt and bind your favorite way and HaPpY picnicking friends!
